Advanced Resources has an immediate opening for a Teacher in the Library.
Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Program Manager and guidance of Chicago Public Library staff, Teachers in the Library help children successfully complete their homework assignments and improve their school work habits. They work to develop positive relationships with children that will increase their confidence and motivate them to do their best. They collaborate with Library staff to create a supportive learning environment and help students learn to leverage the expertise and information available to them through the library.

Responsibilities:
- Help direct children to focus on their homework
- Work closely with library staff to assist children and families
- Collaborate with library staff to integrate learning strategies and library resources
- Demonstrate and reinforce learning concepts
- Talk with parents and caregivers about specific assignments and provide support
- Suggest learning strategies and conduct skill drills
- Collect and report statistics and anecdotes of student success
Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois teaching certificate (substitute certificates not accepted)
- At least one year of classroom teaching experience
- Ability to work successfully with students ages 3-19
- Understanding of common core standards
- Familiarity with the basic functions of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, and Presentations) software, email, and internet
- Solid interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and staff across the organization
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple students at various grade levels
- Bilingual individuals are encouraged to apply
- Availability to work Monday – Thursday starting no later than 4pm; possible Sunday afternoons. Typically 6-12 hours per week
- Willingness to submit to fingerprinting and a background check
